Thinking of Joining the Military?

When joining the military, there are certain requirements that must be met. To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien. You must also be at least 17 years of age, though those under 18 will also need parental consent to join. Applicants typically need a high school diploma and to pass a medical exam as well.

In addition to these basic requirements, each branch of the military has more detailed enlistment criteria. For example, the Army has a maximum applicant age of 34, but the maximum applicant age for the Air Force is just 27 years of age. You will also have to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) and each branch of the military has a different minimum score that will be accepted.

What are the physical requirements for joining the military?

While the different branches of the military typically have similar entrance requirements, the physical requirements vary. This is because each branch has different physical demands. Generally speaking, you will need to be in good physical condition, have a healthy weight, and be able to pass a standard exercise screening.

You will be required to complete basic training in all branches. The Marine Corps is argued to be one of the most grueling and difficult of all. Below is a military basic training time table (some may vary depending on Military Occupation Specialties “MOS”):

Air Force
